About Us
The Women Behind the Furniture Two women with diverse talents came together to create American-made, green produced, luxury market family treasures that not only contribute to the home's ambiance, but are also completely functional.Donna Dill is President, responsible for Finance & Operations. Donna’s track record of successes span over 30 years of the contract and residential furniture industries with organizations like Brayton International Collection as CFO for 17 years, First Factors Corporation, as Vice President of Human Resources, and in a partnership position at Carolina Business Furniture as CFO and then President. Donna joined a small supplier of furniture for the bath, as COO in late 2002, where she met the co-founder, Pamela Merritt. An entrepreneur at heart, Donna became a partner in 2003. Pamela Merritt is Vice President, responsible for Product & Business Development. Pamela has over 30 years hands-on experience in successful product and business development both as an independent and with organizations like Masonite, Marvin Walker Associates (importer) and Furniture/Today. In early 2002, Pamela co-founded a high-end, import line of bath furniture, where she was responsible for sourcing, product and business development. Donna and Pamela worked together importing bath furniture for three years. In 2005, having left the vanity business, they joined forces to create DesignSolutions, Inc. and consult in the kitchen and bath industry. Over time it became obvious that there was a hole in the market that needed filling and using DesignSolutions, Inc. as the platform, Donna and Pamela began designing and producing American made, Green produced, luxury market furniture for the kitchen and bath. Not to brag (well maybe just a little), but we are the recipients of the Design Journal’s 2007 Platinum ADEX award for design excellence (C14 Ming Alter Table). Much of the credit goes to the people who interpret our designs. We are extremely proud of the people who work diligently and with care to make our fine furniture; they are the most talented craftsmen and artisans in the business. CRAFTSMEN Your furniture is bench made, usually by one person…his name is Todd, and while he claims not to be a craftsman, he certainly is one. Todd left a career in management w/IKEA to build his own furniture making shop and is a master of bench made case pieces and seating frames. Todd doesn't make furniture to last a lifetime, he makes furniture to last a millennia.Todd works with wood the way a great sculptor works with stone, always finding a way to bring out the best aspects of each piece. He is assisted by Ricardo, Arman and Bill, who are both diligent and creative. Once your furniture is completed in white wood, it is finished by another group lead by Dale, whose finishes are applied lovingly and, if you could see the smiles on their faces, you’d know with lots of joy…Dale and his crew love their work. They apply an artist's eye to our finishes. Each time a new piece is finished, we declare it to be the “best yet.” ARTISANS George Kosinski, ASFE, SFIE, is a sixth generation of European master hand carvers. He began his apprenticeship at age six (6) with his father, grandfather, and other European and American master woodcarvers and woodworkers and has honed his skills over a 50+ year career. George carved a Maple wood portrait of Ronald Regan for the Regan Collection and carved the chair back for a chair given by Nancy and Ronald Regan to HRH Prince Charles and Princess Diana up the birth of their son Prince William. He has been a guest lecturer at Harvard University Graduate School of Design and is a member of MENSA and the International Society for Philosophical Enquiry. Owning a piece of furniture made by the craftsmen and women at DesignSolutions, Inc. is like owning a work of art. And, art can’t be rushed… It takes a long time to bring excellence to maturity. ~Publilius Syrus |
